Yukon Community Pilot Program

The Yukon Community Pilot (YCP) is a new stream of the Yukon Nominee Program. The YCP launched in 2020 and will run for 3 years.

About Yukon

Yukon is a territory in northwest Canada. Indeed, the territory is named after the Yukon River the longest river in the Yukon and Whitehorse is the capital.

Specifically, the Yukon Territory’s climate is mainly subarctic, and the majority of the province is located at a high elevation with semiarid conditions, resulting in warm summers with temperatures averaging 77°F (25°C) and higher.

With beautiful nature, a variety of opportunities, enormous natural resources, and friendly welcoming people, Yukon is a wonderful place to live.

Northern Living Allowance

In fact, do you know that every resident is given an $11 a day northern resident allowance provided that you live in the Yukon for 6 consecutive months in a calendar year! Additionally, there is another $11 a day tax credit to cover housing expenses. accordingly, in your first full year that you reside in the Yukon, a total tax deduction or $8030 a year plus the additional $11 a day for every member of your family (Cre: liveinwhitehorse.ca)

The Yukon Community Pilot program

Equally important, if you have a valid nomination for permanent residence from Yukon, you may be eligible for a 2-year location-restricted open work permit under the YCP.

Besides, it is entirely up to you to find jobs in the Yukon, you need to get a job offer from a Yukon employer. Hence, the YNP is not involved in the recruiting process and does not keep a list of qualified Yukon firms.

This work permit:

  • Lets you work for up to 3 different employers in 1 of the participating Yukon communities
  • Is valid for 2 years
  • Doesn’t need an LMIA

Job offer requirements:

  • They must all be in the same participating Yukon community
  • The wage must meet or exceed the minimum wage
  • They must add up to at least 30 hours of work a week (equal to a full-time job)
  • They must be non-seasonal
  • Generally, this means you have consistent and regularly scheduled paid employment throughout the year
  • Your experience must show that you can perform the duties of the jobs offered

  • Watson Lake
  • Dawson City
  • Haines Junction
  • Carmacks
  • Carcross

How to become a Yukon resident?

  • First, meet the minimum requirements for the federal Canadian Experience Class.
  • Secondly, be accepted into IRCC’s Express Entry pool and have an Express Entry profile number and job seeker validation code.
  • Also, have a valid, permanent, full-time job offer from an employer in Yukon.
  • Finally, plan to live in Yukon.
